  RNLB The Davys Family

1981 - 1986

Rother class lifeboat ON 1064 arived at Shoreham on 21 August 1981 and was named The Davys Family by HRH Princess Alexandra at a naming ceremony at the Shoreham boathouse.

She was 37' long with a wooden hull, and was powered by twin 52 hp engines giving a maximum speed of about 8 knots. The Rother was the first lifeboat designed to self right due to the buoyancy of the sealed cabin. Today, all RNLI all weather boats are designed this way.
