This is our ILB,
Barry Lazell. She is the latest version of the D-class
design which has been evolving since the early 60's. The
new boat is faster and more manoeuvrable, as well as
being better equipped. |
|
 |
She is powered by a
50hp engine and can reach speeds of up to 30 knots in the
right conditions. |
 |
For casualties, the
boat carries an extensive first aid kit, Oxygen, a
stretcher, spare lifejackets and clothing, stiff necks
for spinal injuries and thermal hoods to prevent heat
loss. |
 |
In addition she
carries searchlights, binoculars, night vision, and 2 VHF
radios. The new Northstar GPS navigator gives us full
charts for the entire area at the touch of a button,
plotting our position as we go. |
 |
If a D-class should
capsize, it is righted manually by the crew. This is
something we practice regularly. Quicktime
