  RNLB Joseph Soar

1988 - 1990

After two years on station the Sarah Jane and James Season was replaced by the 47' Watson lifeboat ON 971 Joseph Soar built in 1963 and similar in most respects to her predecessor.

The boat which had previously been stationed at St Davids, and Dunbar, was originally donated by the Civil Service, Post Office and British Telecom Fund and had been named after Dr J Soar who had been Hon Sec at St Davids Lifeboats Station for 38 years.

The Joseph Soar arrived at Shoreham in September 1988 and remained on Station until September 1990 when she was replaced by the current boat.

She is now in Salcombe, part owned and skippered by the former Salcombe Lifeboat Coxswain Frank Smith.

He conducts popular bay trips in her for those that want to experience crossing the infamous Salcombe bar in an older style lifeboat. See here for more details.
