The D class inshore lifeboat was launched to a report that a van had been spotted in the water within the canal of Shoreham Harbour.

Initial reports were unclear whether anyone was trapped within the vehicle or if it had just been abandoned. The lifeboat crew was advised that other services had also been tasked to the incident and they should stand off as a rescue swimmer was in the water checking inside the van.

After establishing the vehicle had no occupants, the crew carried out a waterline search around the moorings of the canal for anyone within the water.

They then stood off while the van was removed from the water. They then returned to station.
