The all weather lifeboat was launched to a fishing vessel which had been spotted by the National Coastwatch Institution sinking 3/4 miles south of Shoreham Harbour. As the boat cleared the harbour, the crew saw debris in the water and then spotted a man with no lifejacket trying to stay afloat. He was rescued from the water and confirmed he was the only person on the 33ft fishing boat before it sank.
He was checked over and then transferred to the inshore lifeboat which quickly took him back to the lifeboat station to be warmed up. The all weather lifeboat crew continued to investigate and collected debris from the water at the scene before returning to station.
