The all weather lifeboat (ALB) was launched to assist a 45ft yacht which had suffered engine failure a quarter of a mile south west of Shoreham Harbour.
The inshore lifeboat (ILB) was launched first after a 72-year-old woman casualty had fallen overboard from the vessel.
She had been recovered from the water by the yacht crew but required medical assessment. The ILB proceeded with three crew members aboard and was on scene two minutes after launching. The lifeboat crew members were transferred aboard the yacht with first aid equipment. While the casualty was being assessed the yacht’s skipper reported they had no power so the ALB was launched 15 minutes later to take the vessel under tow to Shoreham Harbour.
