The Shoreham all weather lifeboat was then launched just before 2pm and joined by the Newhaven all weather lifeboat which was afloat on a multi-agency exercise at the time. The coastguard helicopter also joined the search along with Sussex police specialist search team. Searches were carried out under the pier, around and to the east and west.
