The inshore lifeboat was launched alongside the all weather lifeboat to a fishing vessel which had been spotted by the National Coastwatch Institution sinking 3/4 miles south of Shoreham Harbour. As the boats cleared the harbour, a crew member on the all weather lifeboat spotted a man with no lifejacket trying to stay afloat. He was rescued from the water and confirmed he was the only person on the 33ft fishing boat before it sank.

He was checked over and then transferred to the inshore lifeboat which quickly took him back to the lifeboat station to be warmed up.
