This is the boathouse which is directly opposite the harbour entrance at Kingston Beach. It has housed lifeboats since it was built in the 30's, and though it has been modified over the years for different boats, inside it has changed very little.

It houses the
lifeboats and equipment, accommodation for the duty crew
and shore-helpers and much more.

The electric winch,
which is used to recover the ALB, is the original one
that was placed here in 1933. Should we be unfortunate enough to have a power cut, the boat can still be launched. |

In the mid 60's alterations were made underneath the boathouse to make an Inshore Lifeboat House with a launching path constructed to the top of the slipway (The present ILB slipway came later). This was done to accommodate a 16ft class "D" lifeboat; the first of which arrived on station during 1967.
