Due to the latest government advice regarding Corona virus our lifeboat station is closed to visitors until further notice. Thanks for your support and understanding.
There are two lifeboats at Shoreham, the All Weather Lifeboat known as the ALB and the Inshore Lifeboat known as the ILB.
ALB - Enid Collett
RNLB Enid Collett is our Tamar class all weather lifeboat. At almost £3M the Tamar class is a huge investment for the RNLI but brings huge advantages to our lifesaving work.
With a top speed of over 25 knots she can reach a casualty in the water up to twice as quickly as the previous lifeboat. She is also equipped with more advanced navigation and casualty handling equipment to make finding, and assisting someone in trouble quicker and easier.
With 2,000 horse power available, a disabled vessel can be easily taken under tow.
ILB - Joan Woodland
This is our ILB, Joan Woodland. She is powered by a 50hp engine and is capable of 25 knots.
For casualties, the boat carries an extensive first aid kit, oxygen, a stretcher, spare lifejackets and clothing, stiff necks for spinal injuries and thermal hoods to prevent heat loss. In addition she carries searchlights, binoculars, night vision, and 2 VHF radios. The Northstar GPS navigator gives us full charts for the entire area at the touch of a button, plotting our position as we go.
